Characterization of three metallothionein-like genes obtained from a subtractive library in ÔCalcutta 4Ő-Mycosphaerella fijiensis Morelet interaction

RESUMEN (ABSTRACT)
"Metallothioneins (MTs) are small, Cys-rich proteins which are involved in reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging and metal homeostasis. In contrast to the vertebrate forms, knowledge about members of the plant metallothionein is still scarcely. In this study, three complementary deoxyribonucleic acid (cDNA) encoding type-3 MT-like genes were characterized, from an expressed sequence tag collection, obtained from a polymerase chain reaction based suppression subtractive hybridization approach from ÔCalcutta 4Ő leaves inoculated with Mycosphaerella fijiensis Morelet. Sequence alignment, domains findings and phylogenetic relationships was established among 24 metallothioneins sequences with the bioinformatics ClustalW, MEME and MEGA 4. Finally, it was obtained a common domain for all sequences and close relationship among them, which allowed us to probe that the three sequences under study shared the characteristics of type-3 plant metallothionein."
